Watch it

“Planet Earth Extremes” (8 p.m., Discovery). If you have HD, it’ll be a visual spectacular about animals in deserts and polar regions. If not, it’s just educational. Ehh, you probably rot your brain enough watching TV, so take time out and feed it something good.

“Worst Cooks in America” (10 p.m., Food Network). The hapless cooks learn to make homemade pasta and have to cater a party. Disaster ensues.

Record it

“Emma” (9 p.m., PBS). Wow, there is soooo little on tonight. There’s no way I’ll be watching this, but for you Jane Austen fans out there, knock yourself out with this latest adaptation. Tonight is part one of three.

“Durham County” (10 p.m., Ion). Is anyone watching this? The first season was too depressing for me to continue.

“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (10 p.m., E). For one reason and one reason only: One of the Kardashian girls gets her butt kicked in a boxing match. “Oh, not the nose!”

Games of the day

NFL playoffs: It’s conference championship time, with the winners headed to the Super Bowl in Miami. The Jets are at the Colts (noon, CBS) and Vikings at Saints (3:30 p.m., Fox). Three words: Anyone But Favre.
