This is for the six of you who watch “Breaking Bad.” If that doesn’t include you, of if it does but you haven’t seen Sunday’s episode yet, stop right now, because there are nothing but spoilers ahead.

So I finally sat down today to watch Sunday’s episode of “Breaking Bad.” Ho-ly crap. That ending was just . . . . phenomenal. A lot of series have had memorably shocking endings this season – “Lost,” “Fringe,” “24” – but this one may take the cake. Just as Jesse’s about to start the Gunfight at the South Valley Corral, Walt comes screaming in, plowing his car into the two drug dealers, mangling them horrifically, and then calmly and coolly pops the surviving one in the head with his own gun. And just a single word of dialogue — Walt’s command to Jesse: “Run.” Wow. Someone has officially broken bad.

Shock aside (which was hard to overlook with my jaw dropping to the floor), I loved the completion of Walt and Jesse’s transformation. Walt has always wanted to be the good guy, and spent the episode hemming and hawing, doing everything in half-measures (from letting Walt Jr. drive with two feet to negotiating terms with Skyler to his plan to have Jesse arrested). This was a turning point. No more half-measures. He acted decisively, no hesitation, taking out two guys in cold blood; there’s no coming back from that. Walt’s accepted that he’s in a life-and-death situation, and is OK with being a killer, especially if it means protecting Jesse. And Jesse, for all his evil posturing earlier this season, turns out to be the only one left with a conscience. He’s the good guy – flawed, but in the end, a good guy.

It astounds me just how good this show is, on so many different levels. Every week I think “Breaking Bad” has hit a new high point for the season, and every time the following week tops it in a surprising new way. Can’t wait for Sunday’s season finale, it should be absolutely crazy.

So what do you think of the way this season has progressed? How’s Walt going to get out of this one? How about the brilliant opening musical sequence with Wendy the hooker? And was that another windshield Walt broke?
