Time to talk Super Bowl. So what’d you think? Pretty good game, awful (as usual) halftime show and a handful of funny commercials. The most controversial ad – Focus on the Family with Tim Tebow – was benign and totally overhyped. Among the Super Bowl viewers I was with, only one person even noticed it. There weren’t a whole lot of really terrible commercials either, other than GoDaddy.com. The screaming chickens for Denny’s were kinda annoying, Puxatawny Polamalu managed to be creepier both the talking E-Trade babies and Johnny Depp in “Alice in Wonderland,” and there was one that I don’t even remember but had the room muttering “what the hell was that?” (Sorry I can’t remember, it made so little impact on my brain. But it was stupid.)
Here are the ones that seemed to go over best:
Audi vs. the enviro-fascists
Betty White and Abe Vigoda (he’s still alive!)
Google kept it cute and clever
I like Bud Light’s “Lost” spoof too.
(Also, a nice “Lost” reference in another Bud Light ad featuring Dr. Marvin Candle.)
But the most important thing we learned from Super Bowl commercials: “Prince of Persia” is going to be awful. What was Jake Gyllenhall thinking?
So what was your favorite?
