“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” is still maddeningly inconsistent when it comes to comedy, but it’s becoming the late-night leader when you’re talking about cool musical guests.

Tonight’s show (12:35 a.m., NBC) features reunited Washington D.C. hardcore band Jawbox (not to be confused with Berkeley’s Jawbreaker, which I always did). Those of you who remember the mid-’90s might recall these guys had a brief fling with college radio popularity during the post-Nirvana musical scene. More punk than grunge, the hard rockin’ indie band made some wonderful, ear-splitting noise but broke up in 1997.

Well, fast forward a decade to 2009. Their seminal album, “For Your Own Special Sweetheart” is now being reissued with remastered tracks and bonus songs, and by some odd coincidence, the band is getting back together for one night only: Tonight on Jimmy Fallon. No tour, no talk-show circuit, just tonight.

So put on your flannel and set your DVR. This should be cool.
