Watch it

“How I Met Your Mother” (8 p.m., CBS). Ted meets the latest perfect girl, JoAnna Garcia (“Privileged,” “Gossip Girl”) and Marshall finds a letter from his past.

“Gossip Girl” (9 p.m. The CW). Why do I keep coming back? I keep thinking maybe this will be a return to the good old “GG.” Tonight Chuck is visited by the ghost of Christmas past. Oh wait, that’s just the ghost of his dead dad. OK, not off to a good start . . . .

Record it

“Alice” (9 p.m., Syfy). Part 2 of the re-imagining of “Alice in Wonderland.”

“The Closer” (9 p.m, TNT). Season premiere. Ehh, not my thing, but it’s a decent option.

“Men of a Certain Age” (10 p.m., TNT). Series premiere. I’m wary. It looks like a sappy male version of “Sex and the City” with three middle-aged guys. But it stars Andre Braugher (“Homicide”) and Scott Bakula (“Quantum Leap”), and they’re cool. And there’s also Ray Romano, who I’m undecided on. Might be worth checking out not like there’s a lot else on.

Skip it

“Find My Family” (9 p.m., ABC). If you’re that desperate to cry, just kick the wall with your bare foot.

“Chef Academy” (11 p.m. Bravo). A totally unsatisfying hour of TV. Yet I keep watching.
