It was just yesterday that a friend of mine asked me if it was worth it to finally start watching the episodes of Fox’s “Dollhouse” that she had been saving on her DVR all season, waiting to see if the show would be canceled or not. Well, now I have a solid answer: The show’s officially dead, so don’t get attached.

Word came out today that the ratings-challenged sci-fi series from “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon will not be picked up past the 13 episodes that have already been planned. Fox yanked the series for November sweeps, but it’ll return Dec. 4 with back-to-back episodes airing three consecutive Friday nights. The final three episodes will run in January.

To Fox’s credit, they’re airing all the remaining episodes, and the advance timing will give Whedon time to write a proper series finale. It’s at least a more dignified end than his previous Fox effort, “Firefly.”
