A couple of Sonoma County natives will be getting some national TV exposure in the next two days.

Late tonight, Penngrove’s Alissa Geving will be profiled on “Last Call with Carson Daly” (1:35 a.m., NBC). Geving is a 19-year-old auto racing prodigy who’s torn up the local Petaluma Speedway circuit for years. She’s among 30 drivers picked from across the country to participate in NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program. If she can be among the top 10 drivers after a five-day test of skill and racing savvy, she’ll be on a fast track (no pun intended) to join a lower-level NASCAR series. Who knows, in a few years, she might be taking on Dale Junior, Jeff Gordon and the boys at Infineon Raceway. Click here for more on her story.

On Friday night, “20/20” (10 p.m., ABC) will profile Carmina Salcido, who survived the horrific 1989 mass murders committed by her father, Ramon Salcido, in Sonoma County. Salcido murdered seven people, including six of Carmina’s family members. Her throat was slit and she was left to die in a landfill,  but Carmina miraculously recovered and has a new book out as part of an effort to heal and move on from her tragic past (Click here for more on that).

“20/20” is telling her story as a 20-year retrospective on the grisly killing spree. ABC got access to previously unreleased photos and evidence, and it should be an interesting — if disturbing — hour. I was still in high school when it happened, but I can remember the palpable sense of shock the murders caused around the Bay Area. It’s one of those crimes that sticks with you over the years. The TV crew was in The Press Democrat newsroom last month filming interviews with reporters and editors who worked on the story 20 years ago (no, I didn’t wave to the camera), so there should be some interesting behind-the-scenes perspectives.
