Watch it

“Modern Family” (9 p.m., ABC). After one episode, already the best new comedy of the season, a clever and hilarious mockumentary of family life. Tonight: Mitchell and Cameron sign up with their new Asian baby for a Mommy & Me class.

“Cougar Town” (9:30 p.m., ABC). There were enough laughs in the first episode to make me give it a second chance. The setup’s kinda stupid though, so I don’t have particularly high hopes. Too bad, I love the supporting cast – Busy Phillips (“Freaks & Geeks”) and Crista Miller (“Scrubs”). But Courtney Cox just isn’t believable as old, fat and desperate.

Where is it?

Sorry, no new “Top Chef” tonight, and I’m not sure why. Maybe they’re trying to stretch the season out for as long as they can. Episode 7, where they’ll do a dinner party, will air Oct. 7. Tonight you can catch up on the past four episodes, starting at 7 p.m.

Record it

“Glee” (9 p.m., Fox). Emmy-award winner Kristin Chenoweth guest-stars. With the cheerleader pregnancy angle though, I’m afraid the show is venturing into generic high-school drama land.

“National Parks” (8 p.m., PBS). I know, I know, it’s boring. But it’s good for you. Tonight: the effect of cars on parks, and the creation of Smoky Mountains National Park.

Skip it

“Hank” (8 p.m., ABC). Did Kelsey Grammar really used to be funny? What happened to him?

“Real World/Road Rules Challenge” (10 p.m., MTV). Holy crap, this is the 18th season of this. Why? How? Is Timmy from Season 1 of “Real World” back AGAIN? Since when did The Miz become an elder statesman? And do they even air “Road Rules” anymore?
