Watch it

“Saturday Night Live” (11:30 p.m., NBC). Season premiere. Megan Fox hosts with musical guests U2. Hmmm, a skeezy actress whose movie flopped last week, and a band whose last album was painfully mediocre. That doesn’t bode well. It seems like a loooong time since this series has been consistently funny. Maybe this will be the year. Doubtful, but . . . . eh, why not check it out and see firsthand?

“Children of the Corn” (9 p.m., Syfy). Just in time for the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, it’s a “Children of the Corn” remake! Chanting children still give me the creeps, and it’s all (well, at least partially) because of the original 1980s horror movie  based on a Stephen King novel. This remake stars David Anders (Sark from “Alias”) and Kandyse McClure (Dee from “Battlestar Galactica”) as a couple in a rocky marriage who make the most ill-advised pit stop ever. Will it be good? Probably not. Will it be bloody and cheesy and haunt your dreams? Yeah, probably. So if you like that sort of thing. . . .

Record it

“Robin Hood” (6 p.m., BBC America). An abbot falsely accuses Robin of stealing from the church. Of course the evil sheriff is behind it. Swordplay ensues.

Top games

Cal vs. Oregon (12:30 p.m., ABC). Huge game for No. 6 Cal. The Bears can establish themselves as the team to beat in the Pac-10 with a win in Eugene. Oregon has won two in a row since their embarrassing opening game loss to Boise State. I put the over/under on Jahvid Best touchdowns at 3.

Texas Tech vs. Houston (4:15 p.m., ESPN2). Whoda thought this game would have BCS implications? The winner here could vie with Boise State for a possible at-large BCS berth in January. Both teams have high-powered offenses, should be a fun one to watch.

Stanford vs. Washington (6:30 p.m., Comcast College Sports). The Huskies are nationally ranked, but Stanford might actually be the better team. Should be an entertaining game from two up-and-coming teams.
