Watch it

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” (9 p.m, HBO). Season premiere. So Larry’s still with Loretta, but now she might have cancer and he wants to break up with her before she finds out for sure, because you can’t just dump someone with cancer, you know? (Um, unless you’re Lance Armstrong.) The funniest show on TV is back after a two-year layoff. I can’t wait.

“Bored to Death” (9:30 p.m., HBO). Series premiere. There’s good buzz about this quirky detective comedy. Jason Schwartzman (“Rushmore,” “Darjeeling Limited”) plays a writer who hires himself out as a private eye on Craigslist. His qualifications? Well, he’s read a lot of detective novels. The previews looked good. And with Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson as co-stars, I have high hopes.

“Mad Men” (10 p.m., AMC). Good lord, the season’s half over already. The episode descriptions are cryptic: a surprise visitor at Sterling-Cooper; Sally is spooked; Joan gets surprising news. Vague enough for ya? Whatever, count on it being good.

Record it

“Entourage” (10 p.m., HBO). Ari goes to war with Adam Davies to get Lloyd back. Meanwhile, Drama wants to jump ship and join the cast of the new “Melrose Place.” (He’d actually be the best actor on that show.) And Gollum – errr, Ashley – is still an insecure freak.

Skip it

Emmy Awards (8 p.m., CBS). I hate award shows, and the Emmys are always an awful, frustrating affair. To put it simply, it Emmy voters want to ignore brilliant series like “The Shield,” “Friday Night Lights” and “Battlestar Galactica” (among others), I’m going to ignore them.
