Best bets for what to watch tonight:

Must-see

“Sons of Anarchy” (10 p.m., FX). The best biker-gang show on TV. OK, so there’s not a lot of competition. But it’s outstanding – part “Hamlet,” part “Sopranos” – and a worthy successor to “The Shield.” It’s worth watching for Katey Sagal alone. Tonight’s Season 2 premiere introduces a new threat to the gang: A group of white separatists led by Alan Arkin and Henry Rollins. It’s already drawing critical raves, and is going to be on my must-list for the next few months.

Record it

“Melrose Place” (9 p.m., The CW). Series premiere. The cheese-tastic ’90s melodrama is back for version 2.0, with more scheming, sleeping around and general scandal. The New York Times even says this new cast can actually act. Whatever, at least they’ll look pretty. Don’t expect it to be good, but it very well might be unintentional comedy gold.

“Chopped” (10 p.m., Food Network). The first in a four-part competition between the cooking show’s former winners. I’m sure judge Alex Guarnaschelli will find something to sneer at from everyone. The series isn’t bad, but is quickly losing relevance now that there’s a new season of the far superior “Top Chef” on.

“Curb Your Enthusiasm: It’s Not a Reunion” (10 p.m., HBO). Whet your whistle for the upcoming seventh season with this preview of the “Seinfeld” pseudo-reunion it’ll feature.
