Say goodbye to “Reno 911.” Comedy Central canceled it Thursday. I have mixed feelings; It was one of the only truly funny sketch comedy shows on TV, but it seemed to hit its peak a couple of years ago. The series never recovered from losing Carlos Alazraqui, Wendi McClendon-Covey and Mary Birdsong last season, and the new cast members lacked the chemistry that made the show so appealing in the first place. So maybe it’s for the best. The series’ stars and co-creatoes Thomas Lennon, Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver have a new show on a new network in the pipeline, so that’s something to look forward to.

Indie rock icons Sonic Youth will make a guest performance on an upcoming episode of “Gossip Girl” (possibly playing at Rufus and Lily’s wedding?). Is it a bold attempt by the show to grab some indie cred, or a sellout move by the band? Based on the musical track record of the show, I’m tending to learn toward the former. Besides, if Rufus was supposedly a ’90s indie rock star, why wouldn’t he know Kim Gordon & crew? Now if only they can find a way to get Evan Dando and Juliana Hatfield to attend the wedding too . . . .

This just in from the What Are They Thinking Dept.: Bryan Singer is set to direct a film version of “Battlestar Galactica.” Only it will have nothing to do with the recently ended, much-beloved series. Is Hollywood really that barren of new ideas? To re-imagine a re-imagining, while the previous series’ indellible mark is still fresh in fans’ minds seems insane at best, idiotic at worst. (Even worse than a Joss Whedon-less “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”) If “Superman 2” was any indication, it’s best to have very low hopes for this one.

Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) wants to come back to “Lost.” Great news. His death a couple seasons ago was a bummer. Looks like he wouldn’t be the only dead person to reappear next season: Daniel, Clarie, Juliet and Boone are all already on board. Can’t wait until January.
