Tuesdays have suddenly become my favorite nights for TV. Between “Reaper,” “My Boys” and “Rescue Me,” there’s a little bit of everything — supernatural thrills, comedy and gripping drama.

Things kicked off with another good episode of “Reaper.” Mostly
because it had a lot of Nina and saw the goodbye of Kristen. Nina is
fast becoming my favorite character, she rocks every scene she’s in
with that sweet, naive, yet homicidal personality. Loved her pep talk
to Ben about how she overcame her aversion to blood so well that now she likes to
bathe in it daily. Yummers. Ben’s “vision board” cracked me up too.
What’s with his obsession with bunnies? Between the bunnies and Nina, I’m getting serious “Buffy” flashbacks. Thank god Kristen is gone, assuming she really is. That was a plotline
to nowhere. Nice touch of pathos at the end, with douchey Morgan sending the poor redeemed soul back to hell. Yeah, when you play with the devil, there aren’t many happy endings.

“Rescue Me” was fully into comedy mode last night, and put out what might have been the funniest overall episode in its run. I tried not to laugh too loud since my roommate/brother was asleep in the next room, but I just couldn’t help myself. So much sick, twisted, dirty lines, I loved it. Gotta keep the blog PG-13 though, so many of the funniest bits I can’t repeat. But of the clean material, I loved Tommy telling the guys how they all sucked, Crazy Sheila being crazy, paraplegic Michael J. Fox ready for some fisticuffs and Mike’s truly awful bar ideas (yeah, NYC chicks would flock to a lumberjack bar). Oh, and that line about the firehouse being basically a sorority with testosterone? So, so true. Also a subtle but hilarious moment when Lou commented on the “nice basement” to the bar then immediately barred the basement door. Maybe to keep out the CHUDs. Yet there was still a good vein of sobering (no pun intended) reality with the French reporter getting the crew to open up about 9/11. Lou breaking down into tears was just heartbreaking. I’m so, so glad this show is back. For 22 episodes, no less! I missed it, a lot.

I ended the evening with another solid episode of “My Boys.” Nothing groundbreaking here, but plenty of comfortable chuckles. I’m still not completely sold on P.J. and Bobby — I’m waiting for some real chemistry to break out. But he’s better than the guys she’s gone out with before. And he pulled a nice boyfriend save by not criticizing the ending of her column. It cracked me up how, after all of Brando’s lame ideas for a club name, his partner goes with John’s. That’s brilliant, the most mundane name of all.

I like P.J.’s promotion too. Her being a baseball beat writer always bugged me. Real-life beat writers don’t have time for a social life like that. They work almost every night and are gone on road trips for a week ot two at a time. They’ve kinda moved the focus from her worklife since the first season, but her becoming a columnist really gives her character more freedom. Oh, and speaking of real life, sportswriters look a lot more like her schlubby co-worker Jack than cutie-pie P.J.

My one huge complaint: TBS started the show early and it ran late, so my DVR cut off the beginning and the end. I hate when networks do that. And it takes a week for them to post a new episode On Demand. Guess I’ll have to remember to manually set the recording times next week.
