Taking a quick break from the deep thoughts and provocative ideas the “Lost” finale brought up, there’s been a major announcement in the brainless world of “The Hills”: Kristin Cavallari will replace Lauren Conrad next season.

That’s tremendous news. Kristen, as you “Hills” fans surely recall, co-starred with Lauren (then LC) in “Laguna Beach” when the two of them were in high school. Kristen was by far the best thing about that series. (Well, besides the perfectly lit cinematography and the angsty teen pop songs that stuck in your head for weeks after — damn you Hillary Duff!) Let’s face it, Lauren is boring. She tries to be nice, she’s more or less wholesome (well, it’s all relative) and she’s fairly clueless, and that makes for bad TV.

Kristin, on the other hand, is mean, manipulative and an attention whore. And she fully acknowledges it. She knows the show is all about drama, and promises to create some of her own. I have no doubt she’ll elevate “The Hills” to new levels of trashy, mindless spectacle.

Yeah, I’ll probably be disgusted in the fall when the new season starts, but in a sick, twisted way, I’ll kinda love it too.
