Watch it

“How I Met Your Mother” (8 p.m., CBS). Marshall and Lily visit a fertility specialist and Robin starts her new job.

“Men of a Certain Age” (10 p.m., TNT). Joe hears disconcerting news about his former bookie, and Terry realizes the advantages of having a 9-to-5 job. (Hmmm, health benefits good, waking up early bad . . . )

Record it

“The Closer” (9 p.m. TNT). In the season finale, Brenda’s judgement comes into question during an investigation into a shady rehab facility.

I’ve never seen either one, but I’ve heard decent things about “Pretty Little Liars” and “Greek.” Both have season premieres tonight (8 and 9 p.m., ABC Family). Not much else on, so why not give ’em a look?

Skip it

“The Bachelor” (8 p.m., ABC). Season premiere. The stupidest show in America is back, with former “Bachelor” Brad Womack back for a second chance, for some reason. He’s the guy who spurned both bachelorette finalists a couple of years ago. Tonight one of the new contenders slaps him for that. I might watch a bit just so I can be appalled.

Game of the day

Orange Bowl: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech (5:30 p.m., ESPN). Two high-powered offenses square off it what should be a hugely entertaining, high-scoring game.
