It’s another slow week here at the blog mill. Look for my list of the top TV dramas of the decade Thursday, and I’ll be back in the daily swing of things Monday, when networks start airing new shows again. But until then . . .

Worth watching tonight:

“Everest: Beyond the Limit” (9 p.m., Discovery). A new season kicks off with two hours of a fascinating blend of adventure, danger and insanity as climbers attempt to mount Everest. Tonight: A traffic jam in the “death zone.” It’s the next best thing to reading Jon Krakauer’s “Into Thin Air” (which you should totally do).

“The Real World: Washington DC” (10 p.m., MTV). Season 23 premieres. Yes, 23. Seriously, who’s watching this anymore? If this was a scientific experiment, you could analyze the copious amount of data and safely come to a conclusion: When 8 strangers are forced to live together, stop being polite and start getting real, the following happens: drunkenness, random hookups and fights. And “Jersey Shore” is better for all three.

Worth watching, but. . . .

I’ve been reading about this PBS documentary on singer/artist/poet Patti Smith (a “P.O.V.” special called “Dream of a Life”) that’s supposed to be fantastic. But KQED isn’t airing it tonight, and I can’t figure out when it is actually airing. Keep an eye on the listings, and if I come across it, I’ll let you know. It definitely looks worth checking out.

Correction

And finally, I have a very important fact to correct. In a blog post over the summer, I wrote that when I was a kid, my parents were too mean to buy me any G.I Joe dune buggies or fighter jets or tanks (they were busy wasting their money feeding and clothing my brothers and me). So what did I get for Christmas? A G.I. Joe COBRA gunship, complete with missiles that can fire and take an eye out. So, thanks mom and dad! (And at least I know one person’s reading this blog.)
