SUNDAY:

There’s something going on this weekend that a few people might want to watch. Let’s see if I can remember what it is… I know it involves a sport of some kind. Ah, yes … the Super Bowl. Maybe you’ve heard of it? The New England Patriots face off against the New York Giants at 3 p.m. Sunday on NBC.

If you’re not sick of singing competitions yet, the season premiere of  “The Voice” immediately follows the big game.

MONDAY:

One show NBC has been advertising even more than the Super Bowl is “Smash,” a drama featuring Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and Katharine McPhee about the making of a Broadway show based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.  It airs at 10 p.m., after another two-hour episode of “The Voice.” In case you managed to miss those ads:

TUESDAY:

Another show that debuts this week is action thriller “The River” (9 p.m., ABC) When a TV explorer(Bruce Greenwood) goes missing in the Amazon, his wife (Leslie Hope) and a documentary crew set out to find him.

 WEDNESDAY:

Ah, love. In honor of Valentine’s Day next week, ABC comedies “The Middle” (8 p.m.), “Suburgatory” (8:30 p.m.) and “Happy Endings” (9:30 p.m.) deal with romantic angst. Sandwiched in at 9 p.m., on “Modern Family” (9 p.m.), Mitchell and Cameron move in temporarily with Jay and Gloria.

THURSDAY:

“Rob” (8:30 p.m., CBS) is still on the air. Go figure. (That’s an observation, not a recommendation.) Watch “The Big Bang Theory” (8 p.m., CBS) as Sheldon reluctantly takes some time off work, skip “Rob,” and then come back at 9 p.m for “Person of Interest.” Or, if you’re in the mood for a moody Valentine’s Day, “Grey’s Anatomy” (9 p.m., ABC) celebrates the special day, no doubt with trauma of the physical and emotional variety. (When my DVR went kaput a few months ago, this is one of those shows I never bothered to start recording again. But maybe it’s returned to the guilty pleasure it was those first few seasons?) And, tonight, as always, you can’t go wrong spending the night on NBC.
