Wondering whatever happened to that “Battlestar Galactica” movie that was supposed to air this fall? Titled “The Plan,” it was to show from the Cylons’ perspective their attempt to annihilate the human race, and a good number of “BSG” cast members signed on (sadly, no Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber or Lucy Lawless).

Turns out, Syfy has delayed its airing until sometime next year. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait. The movie will be released on DVD and digital download next Tuesday (Oct. 27). So re-arrange your Netflix queue accordingly. (I’m nursing a sore back today, so maybe I’ll take the opportunity to burn  through some of the “Dexter” DVDs from Netflix that have been wasting away on my coffee table for a month.)

If it’s anything like “Razor,” the first “BSG” spinoff movie, “The Plan” will be well worth seeing, chock full of the action, drama and moral quandaries that made the series so amazingly good. Besides, it’s been a good six months since the series finale, and that’s one show I really miss. It’ll be good to get one last look at the gang. The finale left an unsatisfying taste in some fans’ mouths, so consider “The Plan” a chance to possibly end on a high note. (Theoretically it’s possible there’ll be more standalone movies, but with the cast dispersing to new TV series and movies, it might be tough to get ’em back together again.)

The story of “The Plan” takes place during the first two seasons of “BSG,” so you’ll be thrust back into the most gripping events of the early episodes – the attack on the colonies, the relentless Cylon attacks every 33 minutes, the attempted assassination of Adama, the resistance on Caprica . . . . the stuff that turned me, at least, into a drooling fanboy.

Here’s a sneak peek:

And if you’re wondering about “Caprica,” the “BSG” prequel series, it’s still set to debut on Syfy at the end of January. Here’s a cool behind-the-scenes report on the state of the series.
