Conan’s being Conan. Thank goodness

by TV

There’s been a lot of talk among TV critics this week about how Conan O’Brien’s ratings for “The Tonight Show” have slipped after one whole week and David Letterman has picked up more viewers. “Oh,” cry the media pundits, “Conan’s already in trouble, his show is too edgy, he needs more A-list guests.” And to that I say: Pfffffft. Best, worst of the past week

by TV

A look back at the best and worst in the past week of TV, as well as a sneak peek at what’s to come. Highlights 1. “The Tonight Show.” Conan O’Brien slid effortlessly into his new gig. This past week we saw Denis Leary’s. Though the setup was a bit contrived, his angry, self-defensive, guilt-riddled conversation with his dead family members while in a drunken stupor was absolutely gripping. Turns out … Read More »

Changing of the guard at ‘Tonight Show’

by TV

Later, Leno, it’s Conan’s time now. Tonight, Jay Leno will sign off as host of “The Tonight Show” after 17 years. Conan O’Brien will take over the show Monday, and will be Leno’s final guest tonight (11:30 p.m., NBC). Don’t cry for Leno, it’s not like he’s going far. He’ll be back five nights a week in the fall for a primetime talk show that’ll probably destroy NBC as we know it … Read More »
