Watch this (week of April 14)

SUNDAY Don’t let the “new” label on “Once Upon a Time” (8 p.m., ABC) fool you… it’s one of those “what’s happened up to this point” episodes.  Still, if you’re a fan who’s missed a couple of episodes, or want to become a fan of this fairytale-themed serial, than it’s the perfect time to catch up on what’s been going on in Storybrooke.  “The Good Wife” (9 p.m., CBS) is one of the few shows I watch the night it… Read More »

Watch this (week of March 24)

Basketball fans can bask in March Madness, but what’s out there for the rest of us? Here’s a look at some highlights. SUNDAY When we last left “The Walking Dead” (9 p.m., AMC), Andrea was facing an uncertain future and Rick was weighing a deal to turn Michonne over to the Governor. MONDAY “Revolution” (10 p.m., NBC) returns. What will Miles and crew do now that Monroe has helicopters and  a serious ax to grind? Tonight, we’ll find out that… Read More »

Coming soon: ‘Community’ (and other favorites)

With the seasonal TV slowdown, I thought rather than highlight what’s on this week, I’d let you know when a few of your favorites are returning next month. Dates are subject to change, and I’m sure I’ve left some shows out. But either way, it’s a great time to unclog your DVR to make room for a busy new year: January 4 “Merlin” (10 p.m., Syfy) returns for its fifth and final season. January 6 Jillian is back as season… Read More »

How are new shows doing?

This season’s first casualty was the CW’s legal dramedy “Made in Jersey,” which was canceled after just two episodes. Here’s a look at how some of the other new shows are doing. “Revolution,” (10 p.m. Monday, NBC) Should you watch? This show takes place 15 years after a big blackout left the world in the dark. Interesting premise, sometimes shaky execution. And some of the characters’ actions can be a little infuriating. Last week, for example, when the group attempted… Read More »

Should you join ‘Revolution’?

To kick off the fall TV season, I thought I’d take a look at one new series, a couple returning favorites and what I’m most looking forward to watching next week. New show: “Revolution” (10 p.m. Monday, NBC) was one of two shows I was most looking forward to watching. (The other is “Last Resort,” premiering next Thursday.) It was created by Eric Kripke, the guy who also brought us the CW’s “Supernatural.” The pilot episode of “Revolution” began with… Read More »

This is the revolution?

When it comes to Revolution, the new much-hyped NBC end-of-the-world series that debuted this week, there’s only so much belief to be suspended. Like a few other such shows in recent years (think, “Falling Skies, ” but with a weaker cast and no aliens), something really, really bad has happened, followed by small bands of survivors trying to cope. Couple that with the usual good vs. evil dynamics of human nature, militias, peace-loving people, scavengers, bad apples, intellectuals, and plenty… Read More »

New fall TV shows

For the next few weeks, the networks will try to suck you in with all those bright and shiny new shows… and then about a month after that, they’ll start being quietly canceled. Well, not all of them, of course. Which ones are you going to watch? I’m most interested in “Last Resort,” “Nashville,” “Ben and Kate,” “Animal Practice” and “Revolution.” Then again, I’m also kinda intrigued by “The New Normal,” “Elementary” and “666 Park Avenue.” What can I say…… Read More »

Get ready for upfronts

As many TV shows come to a close, networks shift their focus to fall. Will your favorite show stay to entertain another year, or was this season’s finale its last? And what new shows did the networks pick up in the hopes that they will become your next favorites? The answers to these questions are near: Next week, it’s upfront week, when networks unveil their 2012-13 line-ups. As far as the major networks, on Monday, Fox and NBC will announce… Read More »
