Emmy nominations announced

The Emmy nominations were announced Thursday. While I have no idea which way Emmy voters will go, there are a lot of great nominations – and, of course, a couple of favorites missing from the list. A look at the major categories: Drama series:    “Breaking Bad”(AMC); “Downton Abbey” (PBS);“Game of Thrones” (HBO); “Homeland” (Showtime); “Mad Men” (AMC); and “House of Cards” (Netflix). My take: I’m really rooting for “Breaking Bad” to win this as it heads into its final… Read More »

Watch this (week of Sept. 30)

Remember when all the good shows were on Sunday? This week is another of those times, with several favorites returning:  “Once Upon a Time,” (8 p.m., ABC); “Revenge,” (9 p.m., ABC); “The Good Wife,” (9 p.m., CBS) and “The Mentalist,” (10 p.m., CBS). Fox is also relaunching most of its animated comedies, with the return of “The Simpsons” (8 p.m.), “Bob’s Burgers” (8:30 p.m.), and “Family Guy” (9 p.m.) (“The Cleveland Show” returns next week.) On cable, Showtime is bringing… Read More »

When your shows will return

September is a busy month on TV. While this is the time of year when attention focuses on all those bright and shiny new shows the networks are hoping you will watch, most of us are more eagerly awaiting the return of old favorites. ABC Dancing with the Stars, 8 p.m. on Sept. 24 Castle, 10 p.m. on Sept. 24 Private Practice, 10… Read More »

Fox, NBC unveil fall schedules

NBC announced its fall schedule Sunday. In addition to the series I mentioned in a previous post Friday, the network will also  have the new comedy “Guys With Kids” about guys in their 30s coping with fatherhood. To make room for its new shows, NBC canceled “Awake,” “Are You There, Chelsea?”, “Best Friends Forever,” “Bent” and “Harry’s Law.” But “Community,” which had been struggling in the ratings, will be back for 13 episodes, as will “30 Rock.” Unfortunately for fans… Read More »

SAG award TV nominees

The Screen Actors Guild announced their nominations, including for TV. Among them: Drama ensemble: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Boardwalk Empire,” AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Showtime’s “Dexter.” Comedy ensemble: “Modern Family,” “The Office,” “30 Rock,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “Glee.” If I were to pick a favorite from this group, I’d have to go with “Modern Family,” but all of but one of these shows is in my DVR list. (Sorry, “30 Rock.” When I’ve… Read More »

30 Rock is no Lemon

OMG! Must See 30 Rock: Tina Fey is a genius, and Alec Baldwin is just like a genius.  Tonight, Jack will somehow face a hostage situation and Liz will encounter a problem while remodeling her apartment.  Hostages, possible dry rot, what’s not to look forward to? Parks and Recreation:  Jerry, who is the most abused person in the Park and Rec department, will take center stage for his artwork.  If you know the show, then I’m sure you can imagine… Read More »
