SUNDAY

HBO brings back  “Girls” (9 p.m., HBO) and “Enlightened” (9:30 p.m., HBO) for their second seasons. Will the critically acclaimed “Girls” be able to hold on to its buzz?

On Showtime, three series return: “Shameless” (9 p.m.), “House of Lies” (10 p.m.) and “Californication” (10:30 p.m.).

 MONDAY

“Sex and the City” prequel “The Carrie Diaries” (8 p.m., CW) debuts as a teen Carrie Bradshaw falls in love with New York for the very first time.

Canadian time-traveling cop drama “Continuum” (8 p.m., Syfy) also premieres. A police officer from 2077 is accidentally transported to 2012 … along with a group of terrorists.

Following is the return of supernatural drama “Being Human” (9 p.m., Syfy).

TUESDAY

NBC and Fox comedies are once again new, but if you’re not in the mood, CBS has new episodes of “NCIS” (8 p.m.) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9 p.m.)  On the former, in the second of a two-parter, Ziva is out for revenge. On the latter, a Marine’s combat death is investigated.

WEDNESDAY

Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj join  Randy Jackson as judges on “American Idol” (8 p.m., Fox).

 THURSDAY

 “Anger Management” (9 p.m., FX) is back…because you’ve been clamoring for more Charlie Sheen, right?

Better yet, skip it and turn on to USA But I’ll be skipping Charlie and watching Harvey and Mike over on “Suits” (10 p.m., USA)

The animated “Archer” (10 p.m., FX) also returns.

 FRIDAY

Missed last week’s premiere of “Banshee” (10 p.m., Cinemax)?  (I know I did.)  The series’ second episode airs tonight.
