For me, this week is more about counting down… only seven days until the premiere of “Game of Thrones” on HBO. I’ll be watching the usual new episodes of “New Girl,” “Community,” etc… But if you want something a little different:

SUNDAY

The critically acclaimed “Mad Men” returns to AMC tonight with a two-hour season premiere. (Actually, watch your DVRs on this one, since the debut is listed as being 128 minutes long.) This is one of those shows I feel I should like more than I do. Or maybe it’s just the characters I don’t like? Then again, maybe it’s just that it fills the spot where “Walking Dead” was last week, and that’s a lot to live up to. Regardless, for all you “Mad Men” fans, the wait is finally over! And for those who want to catch up, AMC obligingly offers a daylong marathon.

MONDAY

On the recently renewed “Smash” (NBC, 10 p.m.), Derek recruits Karen to try to steal the musical from Tom and Julia. Maybe now that it’s been renewed, the show will find its footing.

TUESDAY

If you get Oxygen and want to add another reality competition show to your queue, “Best Ink” premieres at 10 tonight. Tattoo artists compete for a chance to win bragging rights and $100,000.

WEDNESDAY

“Whitney” (NBC, 8 p.m.) ends its season tonight. Finally. (If you manage to sit through “Whitney” and “Are You There, Chelsea?”, stay tuned for the far better “Bent,” which debuted last week and is being burned off two episodes at a time.)

THURSDAY

Want to see Justin Bieber pull a prank on Taylor Swift? No? Then you probably won’t want to watch the season premiere of “Punk’d” on MTV. If, however, you have any tweens in your house… (If this is too high-brow for you, MTV also features new “16 and Pregnant” this week. Who says there’s nothing good on?)

SATURDAY

It’s a day to get slimed! “The Kids Choice Awards” airs tonight on Nickelodeon. (More importantly, “Game of Thrones” watch switches from counting days to hours… only 24 to go.)
