After a DVR breakdown that had me lamenting the loss of dozens of shows, and many shows taking holiday breaks or, like “Covert Affairs,” planning season finales, I thought I’d have nothing to watch. Then Fox gave me hope… “Alcatraz” is just around the corner.

This week, Fox announced its new mid-season shows. (Maybe it’s Fox’s way of shifting focus away from the recently premiered “I Hate My Teenage Daughter.”) Among them is an animated “Napolean Dynamite” at 8:30 p.m. Sundays (between “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”).

“Bones” spin-off “The Finder” with Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan will debut in the former series’ timeslot (9 p.m. Thursdays) when it debuts Jan. 12. “The Finder” is a procedural about a guy who can, you know, find stuff. No misleading title there.

“Touch” starring Kiefer Sutherland gets an “American Idol” lead-in when it debuts at 9 p.m. Jan. 25.

But as mentioned above, the mid-season show I’m most excited about: J.J. Abrams’ “Alcatraz,” which stars Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill and Sarah Jones. It’s a thriller about former prisoners who suddenly reappear and no doubt create chaos.

In addition, USA’s “White Collar” returns in January. Yay. Time to again clog up my new DVR.
