Watch it

“Amazing Race: Unfinished Business” (8 p.m., CBS). Season premiere. It’s the losers edition! Favorite teams that have fallen short of the finish line during the past six seasons are back to race again. Among the contenders: cowboys Jet & Cord, Globetrotters Flight Time & Big Easy and Goths Kynt & Vyxsin. The show will be shot in HD for the first time, which should be pretty sweet. This season’s destinations include Sydney; Yokohama, Japan; Kolkata, India, Vienna, Liechtenstein and Rio de Janeiro. Should be fun.

“Saturday Night Live Backstage” (9 p.m., NBC). It’s basically a 36-year anniversary special, with lots of interviews with former cast members, outtakes and clips from past years. Hard to go wrong with that, assuming they skim over the Joe Piscopo years.

Sporting competitions of the day

Daytona 500 (9 a.m., Fox). I always thought it was weird how NASCAR started its season with the biggest race of the year. But whatever. If you like watching cars go round and round, have at it.

It’s feeling frosty outside, and if you want to feel really wintery you can either head to the hills above Geyserville (or maybe even Petaluma) and play in the snow or spend the day watching hockey. Today offers a tripleheader with some pretty good matchups: Flyers vs. Rangers (9:30 a.m., NBC), Penguins vs. Blackhawks (12:30 p.m., NBC) and finally the most intriguing game, Canadiens vs. Flames (3 p.m., Versus), playing outdoors in Calgary, where today’s high is supposed to be a brisk 29 degrees.

NBA All-Star Game (5:30 p.m., TNT). East meets West in the annual mid-season matchup. It’s usually entertaining enough. Inside joke alert: Let’s see what Kevin Love can do when he’s surrounded by talent.

Record it

“Brick City” (8 p.m., Sundance). City authorities are wary of a Bloods vs. Crips truce basketball game. Meanwhile, the budget crisis hits hard, with labor negotiations stalling and kids walking out of class to protest school cuts.

“Worst Cooks in America” (9 p.m., Food Network). It’s the season finale, with the final two recruits facing off and trying to cook restaurant-quality dishes to three culinary experts.
