“Cougar Town” (9:30 p.m., ABC). The gang’s movie-night plans go awry, and Jules invents a new game to pass the time. Can’t be cooler than Penny Can, though.

“Face Off” (10 p.m., Syfy). Series premiere. No, it has nothing to do with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage trading faces. It’s much cooler. In this new reality series, special-effects makeup artists compete for a $100,000 prize. It actually sounds pretty interesting, along the lines of “Top Chef” or “Project Runway.” Tonight, the artists have to turn their subjects into human/animal hybrids.

“Blue Bloods” (10 p.m., CBS). Danny delves into the Russian mob after someone’s whacked at an engagement party.
