Watch it

“The Simpsons” (8 p.m., Fox). Homer learns about parenting from an ’80s sitcom. Funny — I remember not being allowed to watch “The Simpsons” when it first came out. We were a “Cosby Show” family. Maybe Homer will learn it’s all about wearing a crazy sweater.

“House Hunters International” (10:30 p.m., HGTV). A guy looks for a house in Ulan Bator. That’s Mongolia. I think that qualifies as an exotic location. I’ll bet you can get a yurt with a view for cheap.

Record it

“Hawaii Five-O” (7 p.m., CBS). Or around 7 — it’ll start after the Jets-Steelers game. It’s a very special episode, as a major tsunami bears down on the island and — oh no! — the head of the Tsunami Warning Center disappears.

“Masterpiece Classic: Dowton Abbey” (9 p.m., PBS). In Part 3 of 4, Mary and Edith’s rivalry heats up and Thomas and O’Brien plot against Mr. Bates. And someone will wear a top hat.

“Top Gear” (10 p.m., History). It’s the season finale already, and this is just highlights from past episodes. If you’ve never seen it, it’ll be worth a look, but if you’ve been watching regularly, there won’t be much new. I’ve gotta say, I’ve been impressed. No, it’s not as good as the original British series. But it had cool stunts, slick shot of fast cars and the co-hosts developed a comfortable banter as the season went on. I went in very wary, but it ended up being a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to it improving even more in its second season.

Games of the day

NFL playoffs: Packers vs. Bears (noon, Fox). The longtime NFC rivals face off for a shot at the Super Bowl.  The Bears bug me for some reason, and I like Aaron Rodgers, so, Go Packers!

NFL playoffs: Jets vs. Steelers (3:30 p.m., CBS). Can the Jets pull another shocker? They beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh last month. Should be an interesting game, with the winner headed to the Super Bowl in Dallas.

Skip it

“Mean Girls 2” (8 p.m., ABC Family). It’s the made-for-TV sequel to the terrific 2004 movie, back when Lindsay Lohan was still innocent. Here’s a guarantee: This won’t be anywhere near as good. Just watch the original, which airs before this, at 6 p.m.

“Kourtney & Kim Take New York” (10 p.m., E). Season premiere. Why?

“Holly’s World” (10:40 p.m., E). Season premiere. Again — why?
