“The Simpsons” opening sequence took a hilariously subversive, vaguely disturbing turn Sunday night, going inside a grim Fox sweatshop where all the grunt work takes place. Credit British street artist Banksy for that — he directed the opening, apparently the first time an outside artist has been allowed to storyboard that segment. (He also tagged a few walls around Springfield.) And yeah, Banksy may have an anti-corporate bone or two in his body.

Check it out. (Fox pulled the first clip from YouTube; let’s see how long this one stays up.)

I love the three-eyed crow carrying the dead opossum. Bleak stuff.

UPDATE: Banksy’s original opening was apparently even more bleak. But at least no one’s been fired yet. Click here for a Q&A with executive producer Al Jean explaining how it all came together.
