Watch it

“Survivor: Nicaragua” (8 p.m., CBS). Infighting threatens to sink La Flor (the young team). And can Jimmy Johnson survive another week?

“Modern Family” (9 p.m., ABC). Season premiere. The Emmy winner for best comedy is back for a second season. Tonight, Phil reminisces about the past when he has to get rid of the family station wagon, and Mitchell has problems building a princess castle for Lily.

“Cougar Town” (9:30 p.m., ABC). Season premiere. Jennifer Aniston guest-stars as Jules’ new psychiatrist, and the gang tries to get used to the idea of Jules and Grayson being a couple. Join the club. That whole plotline seemed rushed.

“Terriers” (10 p.m., FX). Hank gets a gig investigating a cheating spouse, and Britt gets tempted to go back to a life of crime.

“Late Show with David Letterman” (11:35 p.m., CBS). Joaquin Phoenix is the guest. This should be interesting, since his bizarre alter ego has recently been exposed as a hoax and he first gained public notoriety in that role on Letterman’s show last year.

Record it

“America’s Next Top Model” (8 p.m., The CW). It’s makeover night. Expect lots of tears.

“Top Chef Reunion Special” (9 p.m., Bravo). Ehhh, this is almost a “Skip it.” Reunion shows are almost always lame, and this cast isn’t one I particularly care to see again. But if you’re a superfan, maybe it’ll be worth it. Hmmm, and they might drop a hint about the upcoming “Top Chef All-Stars.” (UPDATE: Yep, they will announce the all-stars, though most of the names have already been leaked.)

“Surviving the Cut” (10 p.m., Discovery). Marine snipers show their stuff. I know my brother Kevin will be watching.

“Top Chef Just Desserts” (11 p.m., Bravo). Esteemed San Francisco chef Elizabeth Falkner guest-judges as the cheftestants have to make desserts from cocktails.

Skip it

“Undercovers” (8 p.m., NBC). Series premiere. A new spy series from J.J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Alias”) about two married ex-spies who are drawn back into the game. Kinda like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” only heavier on the romance than the action. It looks pretty bland. Or rather, pretty, but bland.

“Better With You” (8:30 p.m., ABC). Series premiere. A new sitcom about relationships that looks totally generic. If you’ve seen more than three romantic comedy TV series in your life, than you’ve seen this all before.

“The Defenders” (10 p.m., CBS). Series premiere. A new generic legal drama set in Las Vegas, with Jerry O’Connell and Jim Belushi. Doesn’t look like anything you’ve never seen before.
