“How I Met Your Mother” (8 p.m., CBS) gets meta tonight, with a plot wrapped around a blockbuster movie based on the “true” story of Ted getting jilted at the altar by Stella. Thing is, the movie was produced by the guy who stole Stella away, so Ted comes off as . . . . well, not so well. Chris Kattan plays Ted in the movie, which gives you an idea of the awfulness to come.
I don’t know, the trailer for the movie-within-the-show doesn’t look much worse than “The Backup Plan” . . . .
