Conan O’Brien dropped a bombshell this morning: His new late-night show will debut on TBS in November. That’s a bit of a shocker, Fox has been in negotiations with him for months and they were the clear front-runner for his new home. But apparently Fox had problems getting its affiliates on board. Too bad for you, Rupert Murdoch.

TBS, meanwhile, gets a major boost in prestige. Conan will take over the 11 p.m. timeslot – a half hour earlier than both Leno and Letterman – Monday through Thursday, and George Lopez’s current late-night show will get moved to midnight.

“In three months, I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly,” Conan said in a statement. His contract with NBC prevents him from appearing on TV before September; in the meantime, he’s starting a live nationwide stage tour that kicks off today.

Verrrry interesting. So what do you think? Did Fox drop the ball on this one? Will this get you to tune in to TBS? Will Conan and Jon Stewart duke it out on basic cable?
