Watch it

“Modern Family” (9 p.m., ABC). Phil has to deal with both his fear of the dark and his fear of bugs when he and Luke venture into the house’s crawlspace. That kinda makes me laugh just thinking about it.

“Cougar Town” (9:30 p.m., ABC). Laurie needs a co-signer to buy a new house. I would be bitter that her character can even afford to buy a house, but hey, it’s in Florida. I’d rather rent in the Bay Area.

“Psych” (10 p.m., USA). The guys investigate an apparent shark attack that may have actually been — muuuuurder. Don’t ask me how they explain the shark bites.

Record it

“Mayday! Bering Sea” (9 p.m., Discovery). Miss your fix of “Deadliest Catch”? Check out this look at the Coast Guard’s efforts to rescue the crew from the sinking Alaska Ranger in 2008. It promises plenty of Bering Sea drama.

“Ghost Hunters” (9 p.m., Syfy). A new season kicks off with a special two-hour 100th episode, which finds the team investigating g-g-g-ghosts at Alcatraz. It’s nice to see them on the West Coast for a change.

“Throwdown with Bobby Flay” (9:30 p.m., Food Network). Bobby hits the Sierra, challenging the folks at Squeeze in Truckee to an omelet battle. It’s always sweet when the local chefs win and wipe that smug look off his face.

“Real World” (10 p.m., MTV). The roommates don’t feel safe around Ty. There’s a shocker. Dude, what’s happening to MTV? In the old days, getting physically violent meant you got kicked out of the show! The fact that Ty is still around is not a good precedent.

Skip it

“Celtic Thunder: It’s Entertainment!” (8 p.m., PBS). Here’s a hint: When you have to be told that what you’re watching it “entertainment,” then it probably isn’t very entertaining. This kind of lame musical schlock should stick to late-night infomercials.

“Nip/Tuck” (10 p.m., FX). Finally, the series finale of the series everyone stopped watching about three years ago.
