Watch it

“Supernatural” (8 p.m., The CW, only in the Bay Area). Catch Thursday’s new episode that was pre-empted by the 49ers game. Tonight the brothers wind up at a “Supernatural” convention where they’re the stars. But then a real ghost crashes the party. I’ve heard good things about this series, maybe it’s time to finally check it out. (Um, now that it’s in its final season.)

“Head Games” (9 p.m., Science Channel). Comedian Greg Proops hosts this game show about scientific trivia. Tonight’s subjects include maggots, PDAs and blowtorches. Sounds like fun. A second episode follows at 9:30.

“Super Dave’s Spike-tacular” (11 p.m., Spike). Super Dave Osborne (you may know him as Marty Funkhouser on “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) returns to TV with a new mockumentary series. Tonight he tries to set a speed record in a Mini Cooper around a track wired with explosives. How awesome does that sound?

Record it

“Wanda Sykes Show” (11 p.m., Fox). Geez, I take a week off and three new late-night shows pop up. This is the second installment of Sykes’ new talk show. She’s usually funny, and it can’t be much worse than a typically boring episode of “SNL.”

Skip it

“Ice Twisters” (9 p.m., Syfy). A made for TV movie about a sci-fi novelist who has to save the day when tornadoes made of ice terrorize the country. Um, I’m no meteorologist, but I don’t think that’s how storms work. And in what parallel universe do sci-fi novelists get called upon to save anything?

“Saturday Night Live” (11:30 p.m., NBC). Meh. January Jones hosts (yay!) and Black Eyes Peas perform (boo!).

Games of the day

Iowa at Ohio State (12:30 p.m., ABC). A big battle in the Big Ten, with the winner clinching a berth in the Rose Bowl.

Stanford at USC (12:30 p.m., FSN-BA). A big battle in the Pac-10, with the winner bolstering their Rose Bowl chances. After watching Toby Gerhart single-handedly destroy Oregon last week, it’ll be interesting to see if USC’s defense can do any better.

Notre Dame at Pittsburgh (5 p.m., ABC). If you’re a Notre Dame hater, this could be a fun one. Pitt’s looking good, and the Irish are coming off an embarrassing loss to Navy.

And of course the sports highlight today is the big Manny Pacquaio-Miguel Cotto fight on pay-per-view. Should be a doozy. I’m not shelling out money for it, but still . . . .
