Delayed about 15 years over copyright issues, the complete series of the early-’90s MTV sketch comedy “The State” is finally being released on DVD today. I never saw it the first time around (those were my pre-cable days), but I’ve caught a handful of sketches online and Comedy Central ran a few old episodes last weekend. The show holds up surprisingly well; other than the fashion choices, it’s pretty timeless, absurdist comedy. It didn’t hurt that “The State” had an immensely talented cast, many of whom can still be seen in a couple of TV’s funniest sketch comedy shows (“Reno 911” and “Party Down”) and the upcoming “Michael and Michael Have Issues.” The DVD is loaded with extras and looks like it’s well worth checking out. And not to be a complete shill for Amazon, but they’re offering it for half price.
